Future Day Opportunities For Older People In East Sussex - Consultation 20th April 9.30 - 11am at Kings Centre, Uckfield

A meeting being held at The Kings Centre, Grange Road, Uckfield TN22 1QU on Monday 20th April from 9.30-11am will give voluntary and community organisations the oppportunity to participate in the consultation on the "Future Options For Day Opportunities For Older People In East Sussex", particularly in relation to the Uckfield and Phoenix centres. East Sussex County Council has commissioned an external consultant, David Lock to carry out this review. WEALDEN PARTNERSHIP NETWORK MEETING 20TH APRIL, KINGS CENTRE, UCKFIELD

This workshop will cover key aspects including:
The wider uses of reviews and reports;
Essential and optional elements to include in reports;
An introduction to writing, editing and proof reading skills;
Maximising your budget, formatting and branding your reports;
Ideas for making your report accessible to different audiences.

The course is delivered by associate trainer Madeleine Mayhew. Madeleine is a freelance communications specialist and trainer and has significant experience of producing reports for a range of different audiences.

This workshop is suitable for anyone who is new to developing reviews and annual reports, or who simply wants to refresh their skills or get new ideas. Cost £25 - £35 depending on status. Closing date for bookings: Wednesday 18 March 2009

Every voluntary organisation needs to get their message across - with their staff, volunteers and service beneficiaries, as well as with the 'outside world'. Could you write a news release that will capture the interest of the local media? This workshop will give delegates an under- standing of the role of both internal and external communications. It will explore how to promote your organisation with succinct and clear promotional messages and publicise good news. Managing communication for your organisation is about more than just writing a good advert.

Delivered by a former Journalist and Communications Manager this interactive course will help delegates develop a plan for communicating, create media releases that appeal, prepare for interviews, promote the good news and manage the not so good. No previous knowledge required.

This course is run over two half days to allow delegates time to draft a press release and review it in the second session. Cost £45 - £60 depending on status. Thursday 12 March 2009, 9.30 - 4.30pm, at St James,11 Blatchington Rd, Seaford, BN25 2AB (light lunch included).
This emergency first aid course is ideal for anyone who needs a workplace qualification or anyone who simply requires some basic first aid knowledge. This course meets all of the recommendations laid down by the Health & Safety Executive for the "Appointed Person in the Workplace" certificate. This is the minimum qualification that will be recognised by the HSE in a work environment. Delegates will cover the following topics during the course:

o Safety at the scene of an accident
o Unconscious casualty management
o Rescue Breathing - Adult
o CPR - Adult
o Control of Bleeding
o Shock
o HIV / Hep B awareness
o Legal requirements and obligations

The instructor will also include the recognition and treatment of various illnesses and injuries relevant to delegate's workplace. There are no formal assessments during the course; however the instructor will carry out an ongoing assessment of all delegates throughout the training. It is a requirement of certification that each delegate can carry out CPR to the satisfaction of the instructor. Cost £35 - £55 depending on status. The Wealden Community Network Annual Review will be held on Monday 24 November 2008 at Heathfield Community Centre, Sheepsetting Lane, Heathfield TN20 0XG 10 - 1 pm (including a buffet lunch). There will be two speakers, Debbie Charman (East Sussex Adult Social Care) taking about the Carers' service and Val Shoebridge (East Sussex LINk) who will talk about the LINk project. As well as a review of work carried out this year, there is also an opportunity to think about the health priorities for the Community Network in 2009.
